The Summer Research Program is a summer research experience offered alongside Medicine4Youth for high school and university students interested in medicine and health sciences. Working in teams with university mentors, participants learn how to develop research questions, evaluate scientific literature, conduct literature or scoping reviews, synthesize evidence, write academic research, and present their findings. The curriculum moves from reading scientific literature and forming a research question through screening, data extraction, synthesis, peer review, and poster presentation. Participants conclude by presenting research posters at the SRP Symposium to students, mentors, researchers, and healthcare professionals. Research from the 2025 program was published in a special edition of the Canadian Journal of Undergraduate Research, with 15 student abstracts covering medicine, psychology, public health, neuroscience, cancer research, and more. Sample published work includes reviews on creative movement interventions for children with autism, AI-integrated genomic profiling in pancreatic cancer, and psychosocial interventions for pediatric cancer patients. Registration dates for the next cycle have not been announced; Medicine4Youth confirmed the program's return is still being discussed, and the journal for the latest cohort is expected next year.
